Course Overview

Train to Adjust’s 2-Day Adjusting 101 course is designed to prepare you to succeed on your very first storm, making it suited for both new and experienced adjusters. Our field-experienced instructors cover the fundamentals of property adjusting and catastrophe claims handling, including integral information such as policy interpretation, scoping a loss, the mechanics of adjusting a claim, and the inspection log, which is essential to making it as a successful, working adjuster.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate you can include in your resume. We will also help point you in the right direction to find a job as an Independent or Staff Adjuster.

*This course does not qualify for Continuing Education credit.

A Hands-On Introduction to Property Claims

As a student of this course, you will climb roofs, measure, assess, and scope real examples of damage such as wind, hail, water, and fire losses, as well as others. You will also be provided with an in-depth textbook with field examples of scoping losses and how to explain and close particular claims.

  • You will climb, measure, and diagram a roof and siding
  • You will inspect, measure, and assess dwelling damage of actual, real-life claims and damage ranging from fire, wind, water, and hail
  • You will write and complete an estimate
  • You will learn how to estimate interior water damage
  • You will learn when and how to apply depreciation
  • You will role play in order to simulate customer service in claims handling

  • Loss notice review
  • Time management and appointment-setting
  • The mechanics of making an initial contact within 24 hours
  • The importance of timelines
  • How to write a log (what to say and what not to say)
  • Loss inspection and damage identification
  • How to take proper photos of damage
  • Proper scope notetaking and diagramming techniques
  • How to measure different types of roofs and their nomenclature
  • Proper file documentation
  • When to close a claim
  • When to invoice and how to get paid
